It’s been a long time coming but we are finally there, ready to start making a more eco friendly Surfboard range, we plan to only use stripped old surfboards for the foam, so if you have an old board to re-use we can give it a look over and see what shape we can recycle for you. We think by using old Surfboards we eliminate the process of recycling the foam into a new blank therefore saving on production energy.
For Laminating we will be using Super Sap Bio Epoxy Resin, for cloth we will use a base layer of Hemp with a light layer of 4oz Aerialite we would love to only use Hemp but for our first few builds we will be using Aerialite, this is the best fibreglass cloth out there and together with the Epoxy resin we will be able to make sure your board lasts for a very long time offsetting any extra carbon.
The first few boards will be Retro Single fins with Hand Shaped Recycled Wood fins glassed on, even the leash will be attached by a leash loop rather than a leash plug so we can totally eliminate any plastic from these boards.
By taking these measures we hope to produce a Eco Surfboard with as little as 20% the Carbon footprint of a Production Surfboard, with a little more time we hope to further reduce this with the use of Hemp Cloth only…Wish us Luck!
