The U.S.O. A new Mini Simmons concept
Introducing the U.S.O. – the Unidentified Surfing Object, a radical new surfboard concept that blurs the line between tradition and experimentation. Born from a mashup of the smooth, skatey flow of the classic Mini Simmons and the fast, frictionless glide of a finless Alaia, the U.S.O. is a hybrid designed to unlock new possibilities on a wave.
It slides and drifts with the freedom of a finless craft, yet still holds a line and responds with the surprising control of a Mini Simmons, making it a truly otherworldly ride. This is not just a surfboard—it’s an invitation to explore uncharted territory in wave-riding.
U.S.O. Mini Simmons/Alaia Mash Up
For me, the U.S.O. is more than just a design experiment—it’s a love letter to the boards that first expanded my imagination of what surfing could be. I’ve always been drawn to the purity of an Alaia: the way its planing hull and strange rails let you skim across the surface with effortless speed and freedom. At the same time, the Mini Simmons has always held a special place in my quiver, with its playful rocker profile and fin setup that deliver surprising drive and control in even the most unconventional lines.
The U.S.O. is the fusion of those passions—taking the stripped-down ancient soul of an Alaia and merging it with the flow and hold of a Simmons—to create a craft that feels both familiar and alien, like riding a memory from the past and a vision of the future at once.
Right now, the U.S.O. is still in its early testing stages—an experimental concept taking shape under our feet and in the shaping bay. We’re fine-tuning the balance between speed, slide, and control, and every session teaches us something new about where this design can go. If the idea of this otherworldly hybrid excites you, drop us a message and we’ll keep you in the loop with updates as the project evolves.
